Rocky Mountain National Park
Founded in 1915, Rocky Mountain National Park had a rather
'rocky' start. Ancient trails and rugged cabins dotted the landscape. In the 1960s Rocky Mountain National Park gained funding and was pushed to the forefront of America's most prestegious national parks. Rocky Mountain National Park encompasses approximately 265,770 acres and features five drive-in campgrounds, 200 backcountry campsites, 359 miles of walking and hiking trails, and opportunities for wildlife viewing. Rocky Mountain National Park features 60 mountain peaks over 12,000 feet and is home to Longs Peak. At 14,259 feet Longs Peak is the parks' greatest treasure.
